Pilgrims complete Parker swoop
Article Date: 8 May 2008
Wes Parker
Boston United have ended their year-long pursuit of Wes Parker by capturing the signature of the Gainsborough Trinity defender.
The 24-year-old put pen-to-paper at the Staffsmart Stadium on Thursday evening, almost a year after manager Tommy Taylor first tried to sign the highly-rated defender.
Taylor attempted to bring Parker to the club during the summer of 2007, but contractual reasons meant he had to return to The Northolme. Gainsborough held the rights to the player’s contract, due to Parker being under the age of 24 at the time.
However, after seeing out the final year of his contract with Trinity, Parker has now committed his future to the Pilgrims — a move that has delighted Taylor
Taylor told bufc.co.uk: “Wes is a terrific signing. It’s taken time to get him to join us, but I think it’s been worth the wait. Wes has showed this season why we were so keen to sign him and I’m sure he will prove to be a great acquisition.
“This is the first signing of the summer and I’m confident further additions will follow in the next few days.”
Parker scored twice against the Pilgrims this season, including the winner for Gainsborough at the Staffsmart Stadium on Boxing Day.
He scored nine goals during the season for Trinity, despite playing the vast majority of the campaign at centre-half.
Elsewhere, Taylor confirmed that Simon Weaver and Paul Ellender are both considering contract offers, while talks continue with out-of-contract duo Lee Thompson and Matt O’Halloran.
