Under-10s

Boston United Centre of Excellence journeyed to Holland last week for the Amsterdam Cup. Under-10s coach Ron Green details how his side fared during the tournament…

SQUAD: Harvey Potter (gk), Conor Allen, Elliot Andrew, Lewin Auciello, Dominic Bates, Alex Callaway, Daniel Dougill, James Hook, Luke Nicholson, Ryan Oates, Matthew Smith, Bradley Wright.

SATURDAY:
The under-10s started their Amsterdam Cup campaign with a group containing four sets of Dutch opposition, namely SV Nieuw Sloten, Fc Abcoude, Legmeervogels and Kampong.

BUFC 1-0 SV Nieuw Sloten
The games programme kicked off with the Pilgrims sealing a narrow win. Elliot Andrew’s forceful run was halted illegally on the edge of the area and Matthew Smith smashed home a brilliant free-kick for the only goal of the game.

BUFC 0-0 Fc Abcoude
United continued their solid start with a goalless draw against Fc Abcoude.

BUFC 0-1 Legmeervogels
The Pilgrims suffered their first defeat of the tournament against Legmeervogels.

BUFC 0-2 Kampong
The group was rounded off with a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Kampong. The Pilgrims finished fifth, level on four points with two other sides, but their slightly inferior goal difference placed them bottom of the group.

SUNDAY:
Having finished fifth in their initial group, the Pilgrims moved in Pool BA on Sunday along English, German and Dutch opposition and actually finished unbeaten through their games programme in Haarlem.

BUFC 1-1 Kingshurst Sporting Club
English opposition awaited the Pilgrims in their first game and United recorded a respectable 1-1 draw.

BUFC 1-1 SV Almere
United recorded another 1-1 draw in their next match, this time against Dutch side SV Almere.

BUFC 3-0 VV Zundert
The Pilgrims produced arguably their best performance of the tournament to defeat Dutch outfit VV Zundert 3-0.

BUFC 0-0 ESV Langendeer West
United rounded off their campaign with a goalless draw against German opposition. This result saw the Pilgrims finish third in the group on six points, two points behind the leaders. Needing to win to seal qualification, the Pilgrims were frustrated and hit the goal frame four times.

Boston United would like to thank Bakkavor Pizzeria, East Coast Culverts, Allseas Cargo, Castle Mouldings, Anglian Water Kesteven Sports and Social Club and Tesco Boston for their support of Holland Tour 2008.
