SWD hoping to shoot down Retford
Article Date: 9 Mar 2010
Spencer Weir-Daley
Hotshot Spencer Weir-Daley is looking forward to Tuesday evening’s crunch clash against Retford United — and is quietly confident that the Pilgrims can get the result that they crave.
Weir-Daley scored a hat-trick in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Durham City to take his tally to 13 goals in 15 starts for the Pilgrims, and he is now hoping to gun down third-placed Retford at Cannon Park.
“It has come to the stage of the season where three points from each match is the all-important thing,” Weir-Daley commented to bufc.co.uk.
“It’s an important game against Retford and we are all looking forward to it.
“We need three points and that would move us nearer to top spot.
“We are not aware of the team line-up as yet. There is good competition for places, but the 11 players selected will be ready for the game and will be trying to get three points.”
Weir-Daley was delighted to notch his first senior hat-trick on Saturday — with previous trebles only arriving in reserve team fixtures.
He added: “I think they were good finishes and I was grateful to the team for providing the chances.
“It’s my first hat-trick in senior football, although I have had a few for the reserves in my time.
“Regardless of the opposition, I take pride in scoring in each match and hopefully there are more goals to come.”
