United hold table-topping Diamonds

Goals from Kieron Davies and Jason Field handed Boston United a share of the spoils against Football Conference Youth Alliance leaders Rushden and Diamonds on Wednesday afternoon.

Having dropped only five points all season prior to kick-off, Rushden were strong favourites to win at The Jakemans Stadium, but the Pilgrims responded with one of their best performances of the campaign.

DAVIES drilled Boston in front from the penalty spot after 43 minutes, but parity was soon restored when George ARTEMI powered home a header in first half stoppage time, moments after being denied by a stunning save from keeper Andrew Hewitt.

The Pilgrims retook the lead on 52 minutes when FIELD swivelled to drive the ball home from 12 yards, after Simon Ashton had nodded down Ollie Maltby’s deep corner.

The home side were denied all three points when United full-back Daniel COBB bizarrely headed past his own keeper, following a Rushden free-kick.

The Pilgrims return to action next Wednesday (March 17) at Oxford United.
