Training cancelled as bad weather arrives

Boston United’s management team have cancelled the players’ training schedule for this morning due to the adverse weather conditions, which have affected the region.

The travelling conditions for the players, in addition to the training ground pitches being frozen and covered in snow, prompted United’s decision. Manager Steve Evans knows it “interrupts” their preparation for Saturday’s trip to Darlington, but added that the safety of his players was paramount in his decision.

Evans told bufc.co.uk: “A number of the lads telephoned early about the road conditions. We then had a good look at the training ground pitches and thereafter it was an easy decision, as I will always consider my players’ safety as the most important issue.

“We will travel to Darlington on Friday morning and will train in fantastic facilities at Sunderland. The overnight trip is being funded by BUSA and once again we are very grateful to all of them for this generous help. I know many of them very well and they are true supporters, who have been brilliant.

“I would also like to thank Roy Keane at Sunderland for allowing us to use their fantastic training ground facilities. I had a good chat with Roy and he could not have been more helpful.

“In my opinion, the man was class as a player and is already on the way to being a great manager. I also made an enquiry about a possible loan player and he is now considering my other request.

“Due to Roy’s approval and the generosity of BUSA, we will prepare in a very professional manner for what is a very tough fixture. Darlington were outstanding in midweek away at Bristol Rovers and we will need to be at our best to get anything.

“As a club, they have spent bundles in transfer fees and salaries and anything other than a good win for them would be considered as a bad result.

“As a minimum, we need to show a lot of character after last week.”
